SUMMARY:Oral Anxiolysis Sydney October 2025
DESCRIPTION:Dr Angelo G Preketes & Dr Michael Walker present the first comprehensive 1-day course to educate dentists in Oral sedation/Anxiolysis\, combined with Basic Life Support training. \n\nThis program is the only one-day program in Oral Anxiolysis of its kind. Supported by\, Dr Preketes and Dr Walker\, Clinical Senior Lecturers (Oral Surgery\, Medicine and Diagnostics) Education \nFocused at the University of Sydney and Senior Examiners in the Conscious Sedation Diploma at the University of Sydney\, the only diploma recognized by APHRA. \n\nOne full day is needed to educate Dentists in comprehensive oral anxiolysis and its nuances and complexities to provide the appropriate medications. The one-day course in Oral Anxiolysis is aimed at providing the candidate with the skills and knowledge to deliver oral medications safely \nand recognise and manage medical emergencies that may occur with the use of oral anxiolytics. \n\nThis new program will provide formal education in oral anxiolysis\, that dentists currently do not have access to. \nOral sedation/anxiolysis is a technique used commonly by dentists to decrease a patient’s anxiety and induce appropriate level of anxiolysis and calm\, to enable dental treatment to proceed. With this technique\, a patient’s airway and communication skills remain intact. \n\nThe core of our teaching is based on a safe and comprehensive oral dental sedation/anxiolysis training program. To successfully teach sedation protocols\, we further develop a dentists understanding of pharmacology and physiology\, to administer oral sedatives/anxiolytics effectively and safely. The Oral Anxiolysis course is taught over one day and is divided into the following modules. \nDay 1: \n1. Introduction to oral sedation \n2. Pharmacology and physiology \n3. Patient selection and assessment \n4. Pharmacology of oral sedatives and types \n5. Reversal agents \n6. Minimal oral sedation protocols \n7. Patient monitoring visual\, verbal\, mechanical/electronic (blood pressure\, heart rates\, SPO2) and what all this information means. For example\, “what are critical numbers in monitoring for patient care?” \n8. Patient discharge \n9. Recognition and management of medical emergencies\, training in BLS: -Recognition\, assessment\, and management of the critically ill patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest) \n-Airway management skills \n– Basic life support \n-Defibrillation skills \n– Cardiac arrest management using the \nARC BLS Algorithm \n– Work as an effective team member in a cardiac arrest \nThe course can also deliver targeted training needs in a session specific to the candidate group or organizational requirements. It is ideal for those in healthcare with limited or infrequent \nexposure to crisis events needing advanced life support training. This course is specifically targeted to dentists who wish to give oral anxiolytics/ sedatives and the complications that may arise. \nDr Walker and Dr Preketes provide this course as they have are both passionate about sedation in the dental setting and set out to ensure all practitioners are educated in the safe administration of oral sedatives to the benefit of their patients. We would also like to take this opportunity to make the profession aware that\, as Dr Walker serves on the Conscious sedation Advisory committee for APHRA\, sedation and Anxiolysis in dentistry is coming up for review. Hence\, we encourage \npractitioners that their education in Oral Anxiolysis is current and up to date. \nCPD points obtainable. \nGet tickets $2550.00
