DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr Angelo G Preketes & Dr Michael Walker Clinical senior lectures at the university of Sydney in the Conscious sedation Diploma. Dr. \nWalker also serves on the Conscious sedation Advisory Panel for APHRA. \n  \nOur two-day course is aimed at providing the candidate with the skills and knowledge to deliver oral medications safely and recognise and manage medical emergencies that may occur with the use of oral anxiolytics. \nCurrently there is no comprehensive program on oral medication taught by Lectures and Examiners of the University of Sydney Conscious Sedation Diploma. \nThis new program hopes to provide education in oral anxiolysis\, that dentists can say that they have been formally educated in and so expand their scope of practice\, which at the current time they can’t say. \nOral sedation/anxiolysis is a technique used commonly by dentists to decrease a patient’s anxiety and induce some level of anxiolysis and calm\, to enable dental treatment to proceed. With this technique\, a patient’s airway and communication skills remain intake. \nThe core of our teaching is based on a safe and comprehensive oral dental sedation/anxiolysis training program\, the first 2 day subject specific in Australia. \nTo successfully teach sedation protocols\, we further develop a dentist understanding of pharmacology and physiology\, to effectively and safely administer Oral sedatives. \nThe Oral Anxiolysis course is presented over two days and is divided into a number of modules. \nDay 1 : \n\nIntroduction to oral sedation\nPharmacology and Physiology\nPatient selection and assessment\nPharmacology of Oral sedatives and Types\nReversal agents\nMinimal oral sedation protocols\nPatient Monitoring Visual \,Verbal \, Mechanical (BP \, HR \, SPO2 )\nPatient Discharge\nRecognition and Management of medical emergencies\, training in preparation for Day 2 ALS1 course .\n\nDay 2: \nALS1 certification by Australian Resuscitation Council \nThis ASL-1 course carries national recognition\, It includes the recognition\, assessment and immediate management of the deteriorating patient. Candidates are sent a manual at least two weeks prior to the course to commence preparation for the face-to-face component. This includes those skills for dealing with a cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies in a clinical setting. Included in the course is: \n\nRecognition\, assessment and management of the critically ill patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest)\nAirway management skills\nBasic Life Support\nDefibrillation skills (Manual and/or AED modes)\nCardiac arrest management using the ARC ALS Algorithm\nWork as an effective team member in a cardiac arrest\n\nThe course can also deliver targeted training needs in a session specific to the candidate group or organizational requirements. It is ideal for those in healthcare with limited or infrequent exposure to crisis events needing advanced life support training. \nThis course is specifically targeted to Dentist who wish to give oral anxiolytics/sedates and the complicates that may arise. After doing this course\, the dentist will be able to administer oral anxiolysis safely in a dental setting. \nDentist will be able to say that they have been educate by Lectures who teach in the Conscious Sedation Diploma and who administer drugs like Midazolam\, Fentanyl\, Propofol everyday as a validation of the lectures knowledge base and so provide education in the areas of oral anxiolysis\, monitoring and patient safety far above\, we believe\, what is available anywhere else today. \nDr Walker and Dr Preketes provide this course as they have are passionate about sedation in the dental setting and wish to ensure all practitioners to be educate and safe\, to the benefit of their patients.

This includes those skills for dealing with a cardiac arrest or other medical emergencies in a clinical setting. Included in the course is:\n* Recognition\, assessment\, and management of the critically ill patient using a structured ABCDE approach (aiming to prevent cardiac arrest)\n* Airway management skills\n* Basic life support\n* Defibrillation skills (manual and/or AED modes)\n* Cardiac arrest management using the ARC ALS Algorithm\n* Work as an effective team member in a cardiac arrest \nThe course can also deliver targeted training needs in a session specific to the candidate group or organizational requirements. It is ideal for those in healthcare with limited or infrequent exposure to crisis events needing advanced life support training. \nThis course is specifically targeted to dentists who wish to give oral anxiolytics/ sedates and the complications that may arise. After doing this course\, the dentist will be able to administer oral anxiolysis safely in a dental setting.\nDentists will have been educate by lectures who teach in the Conscious Sedation Diploma and who administer drugs like Midazolam\, Fentanyl\, Propofol\neveryday as a validation of the lectures knowledge base and so provide education in the areas of oral anxiolysis\, monitoring and patient safety far above\, we believe\, what is available anywhere else today.
